Joint Committee on National Security

About the Committee
Agenda Statement : Addressing India’s Strategic & Internal Response to the Sri Lankan Civil War & its implications on Regional Stability
This isn’t diplomacy; it’s India drawing a line. The Joint Committee on National Security meets at a crucial moment. The Sri Lankan Civil War has spilled over borders, ignoring Indian authority and causing unrest in Tamil Nadu. The Indo-Lanka Accord is broken. Our soldiers have bled, our influence is weakened, and our silence has been mistaken for weakness. That silence ends now.
This committee isn’t here to observe or appease; it is tasked with forming a decisive, clear policy that will change India’s approach to Sri Lanka. Every delegate faces a turning point where hesitation is betrayal and action leaves a legacy. This isn’t just a discussion, it’s a battle of minds. And from this room, India’s next move will be sharp, unapologetic, and ready to shake the region.
Letter from Chairperson
Greetings Delegates,
I am Atharv Rawat, and it is my honor to serve as the Chairperson of the Joint Committee on National Security at the Shishukunj International School Model United Nations Conference 2025. On behalf of the entire Executive Board, I warmly welcome you to this unique and dynamic committee.
I am an 11th-grader who wishes to leave a meaningful mark on the world. I am someone who rarely sits still and am usually juggling between academics, responsibilities, and anything else that challenges me. When I do find time for myself, I turn to music. Artists like One Direction, The Weeknd, Lukas Graham, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran make up most of my playlist. I am also a professional badminton player and a passionate football enthusiast. Outside the court, I am a die-hard supporter of Sir Lewis Hamilton, who now drives for Scuderia Ferrari in Formula One.
My MUN journey began in 2021. I remember how daunting it felt to speak up during my first committee. Just like many of you might feel right now, I was anxious, unsure, and honestly overwhelmed. But a supportive Bureau made all the difference. Slowly, MUNs became a space where I grew confident, diplomatic, and more self-aware. From that trembling first speech to now chairing this committee, it has been a journey of transformation, and I hope to be the kind of Chair who empowers you in the same way.
JCNS is unlike any other committee. Every portfolio holds weight, and what you do can directly impact others, often in unpredictable ways. Understanding your stance, connecting the dots, and reacting tactfully is what will set you apart. The committee rewards those who are alert, adaptive, and analytically sharp.
I can assure you that no question of yours will go unanswered, no matter how small or silly it may seem. Whether you are confused about the ROP or the agenda, or just need someone to talk to about why Max Verstappen does not deserve the hype, I am just a message away.
So gear up. Research your portfolio thoroughly, understand your dependencies, and come prepared to shape the course of this committee. I am incredibly excited to see what each of you brings to the table. This year, let us make JCNS the best committee to remember.
Warm Regards, Atharv Rawat, Chairperson, Joint Committee on National Security
