Senatorial Intelligence Organizations Reassessment Trial

About the Committee
Agenda Statement : Investigating Alleged CIA Overreach, Emphasising Illegal Actions, Foreign Coups and Abuse of Power
It wasn’t a battlefield that brought us here. It was leaked files, abuse of power, inhumane operations, illegal actions, and violations of the law. Standing for the Senatorial Intelligence Organisations Reassessments Trial, SIORT is one of the most high-stakes, intellectually engaging and rewarding committees of the Shishukunj Model United Nations. Set against a legal backdrop, delegates will step into various roles, ranging from Director of the CIA to U.S. Attorney General, to uncover the truth behind decades of covert operations, question ethical boundaries, and determine whether the CIA has crossed a line that can no longer be ignored. In a world where secrecy and silence equate to power, SIORT asks: Who holds the truth? Who watches the watchers? And who gets to decide what justice looks like? And now, the verdict is yours to shape.
Letter from Chairperson
Dear Delegates,
It is with great joy, excitement and honour that I, Apurva Acharya, the Chairperson for SIORT, heartily welcome you all to the tenth iteration of the Shishukunj Model United Nations and more specifically to one of the most challenging yet rewarding committees, Senatorial Intelligence Organisations Reassessment Trial.
As a shy 7th grader, stepping into the world of MUNs, little did I know what was unfolding in front of me. Back then, I was captivated by the speeches, the buzz, the blazers and the energy of it all. I barely spoke initially, unsure if I truly belonged there, but what truly changed everything for me was my Bureau. They never dismissed me but gave me space to grow, encouraged me to speak and reminded me that my voice mattered, even if it trembled, and that support and belief is something I’ve carried with me ever since. And now, as your Chairperson, that’s exactly what I hope to pass on to you.
Fast forward to today, MUNs have been some of the most defining experiences of my school life. They’ve taught me how to lead, how to listen, how to speak up, how to sit down when it’s time to learn and how to cultivate both conviction and compassion. They’ve introduced me to some of my closest friends, my mentors and my loudest inner thoughts. So, to be chairing at a conference I once watched from the back row, wide-eyed, is nothing short of surreal.
I won’t lie to you, SIORT will challenge you as it’s a fast-paced, detail-heavy committee where you’ll be questioning institutions and thinking critically. It will be intense, but also incredibly cool. Whether this is your first conference or your tenth, what matters is your willingness to question. So come prepared, not just with research, but with heart. Ask bold questions, make your share of mistakes, support each other and most importantly, don’t forget to have fun with it, and you’ll be surprised by how much you take away, not just as delegates but as people.
I can’t wait to meet each of you, not just as delegates but as individuals with ideas, stories, and so much potential. If you ever need help, guidance, or even just a pep talk, I’m just one message away.
See you in committee!
Warmly,
Apurva Acharya
