Agenda Statement : Addressing the Deepening Divide Between East and West Pakistan and the Rise of the Awami League

As we stand here today witnessing the conflict not only between Pakistan and India but Bangladesh and India as well, it is imperative to note that everything happening currently can be traced to what was happening in the country previously. The Pakistani point of view, in many instances, has not been duly discussed, and this year, with the IRNA, we aim to change that. Through The Islamic Republic National Assembly we wish to throw light on what the internal factors, refusal of transfer of power among the political groups, and international intervention actually resulted in.

This year, the IRNA is tasked with the agenda of “Addressing the Deepening Divide Between East and West Pakistan and the Rise of the Awami League”.Within this agenda, we shall discuss the factors that led to the rift between East Pakistan and West Pakistan that eventually resulted in them becoming the individual nations they are today. The IRNA, being a historic committee, is set with a freeze date of December 05, 1970 where tensions were high and compromise was the only option. The delegates must think on the spot and be prepared for anything because the fate of East and West Pakistan now lies in the hands of this committee.

Letter from Chairperson

Namaste Delegates,
It is with great honour and immense pleasure that I, Jahnvi Julka, the chairperson of the Islamic Republic National Assembly, welcome you all to the 10th iteration of the Shishukunj Model United Nations.

As I vividly reflect on my first Shishukunj MUN, I remember the nervousness, the jitters, and the lack of confidence I had. But little did I know that that nervous young delegate would now be presiding over one of the specialized agencies.

The Shishukunj MUN has not only shaped who I am today but has also provided me with a platform to connect with the people I value the most today, something I hope every delegate can take away from this conference. This year, the Shishukunj MUN will not only give the delegates a chance to stand up, but will also serve as an opportunity to find people you can rely on each day.

The Specialized Agencies has been a part of me for as long as I can remember, and it all started last year when I was given the chance to chair one of these four committees. Though there were hiccups along the way, though there were times I thought of giving up, I’m grateful I did not, because this organ has not only been a home for me but has also served as the first milestone of improvement in me and my career. So, from being the Vice Chair last year to now having a gavel with my name written on it, I can assure all of you that this Shishukunj MUN is going to be one that changes you all in the best way possible.

With this, I encourage you all to take the lead this time, participate as much as you can, and expect the unexpected because everything that could happen, will happen. Lastly, as the Chairperson, I promise to make this Shishukunj MUN a safe space for all of you where you’re comfortable being you, just like the Specialized Agencies have been for me.
I am eagerly waiting to meet you all and can’t wait to see what you have to offer firsthand.
So together, let’s rewrite history, one more time.

Regards,
Jahnvi Julka
