Lok Sabha

About the Committee

Agenda Statement : Deliberating Upon the Implementation of Uniform Civil Code in India and its Impacts
Lok Sabha: representatives of the people, the very pulse of Indian democracy. We navigate through a web of laws, and what we decide will echo in the lives of millions. The Lok Sabha is composed of representatives chosen by direct election. The Constitution allows for a maximum of 550 members. At present, the Lok Sabha has 543 seats filled. Agenda: Deliberation Upon the Implementation of Uniform Civil Code in India and its Impacts. UCC proposes a single set of laws governing personal matters (not dictated by religion, gender, etc.) We discuss if it is truly needed, and its impacts in the political, economic, and social spheres. Our true strength lies not just in debate, but in the solutions we forge together.

Letter from The Speaker

Dear Parliamentarians,

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the Shishukunj Model United Nations 2025. I, Advita Tiwari, am honoured to serve as your Speaker for the Lok Sabha. I truly hope this experience will help you recognize different perspectives on the same issue, learn to debate and negotiate, and most importantly, have a great time.

Before we go straight to current me, let’s take a step back: me, at the beginning of 9th grade. I happened to read the mail about an MUN to which our school was sending a delegation. The requirements for the audition were interest in current affairs and public speaking. Coincidentally, I had both, and so I thought: hey, let’s give this thing a try. Cue a quivering Delegate of Israel in a committee about nuclear bombs, who spoke fairly less, but learned quite a lot. Now, I am in 11th grade, studying Commerce with Applied Mathematics, hoping to become an economist and spend my life studying incentives and graphs (yay!). Nowadays, I mostly participate in Lok Sabhas (Indian committees are always the best). Outside of MUNs, I love writing, photography, music and Formula 1 to name a few.

The agenda for the parliament is “Deliberating Upon the Implementation of Uniform Civil Code in India and its Impacts”. There is no freeze date, meaning the committee will function in present time. I am looking forward to seeing you all engage in debate and create unique and innovative solutions to this issue; Uniform Civil Code is an incredibly complex topic, with an even greater number of viewpoints surrounding it. Data-backed, informed arguments and confidence in oneself is key to ace the committee. Of course, you can always reach out to me with any questions you may have.

It goes without saying that this is going to be just as much of a learning experience for me as it is for you, and I am very excited to hear your opinions and just get to know you all in general. If F1, Marvel movies or Resident Evil happen to be on your fandom list (and even if they’re not), I would love to talk to you, so reach out!

I am looking forward to meeting you all, and the committee awaits your presence!

Best wishes,

Advita Tiwari, Speaker, Lok Sabha
