Disarmament and International Security Committee

About the Committee

Agenda : Addressing the Proliferation of Technologically Advanced Space Based weapons of Mass Destruction and Preventing a new age arms race beyond Earth

What if the next armed conflict is nowhere to begin on Earth, but beyond it? Space, once meant for peaceful exploration, is now turning into a battlefield. At Shishukunj MUN, DISEC looks forward to addressing a thought-provoking yet critical agenda: Addressing the weaponization of outer space and preventing a new age arms race beyond Earth.

There is an urgent need to regulate, disarm, and prohibit the further development of technologically advanced space-based weapons to preserve outer space as well as to make the planet a safe place for all. As nations compete to secure dominance in futuristic warfare, the risk of space militarization grows.

Delegates are expected to deal with this growing concern through diplomacy, coordination, and questioning the outdated frameworks. It is now up to the committee to safeguard peace and shape a better tomorrow.

Letter from Chairperson

Dear Delegates!

With Immense pleasure, I welcome you all to a committee that has long stood at the forefront of global peace and security. The disarmament and international security committee. As a delegate of DISEC, you now shoulder the responsibility of confronting challenges that transcend borders, ideologies, and even our planet! In this 10th iteration of the Shishukunj Model United Nations, which is known for shaping leaders of the future, I cannot be more excited to host all of you wonderful delegates

My Name is Shlok Kasat, and I have the pleasure of serving as the Chairperson of DISEC. I am an 11th Grader pursuing commerce with applied mathematics and aspire to join the management field in future. Mun’ing, debating, public speaking, and even sports like cricket and football have been my passion as long as I can remember. In the sense of likings, i really like listening to music and gymming. Another thing that really fascinates me is fighter planes. I believe that MUNing is not just about giving speeches or putting allegations on others, as the name suggests, it is the model of the real deal so just like in real life you have to come to concessions and create solutions to harness your inner diplomat. Just like a cherry on top of a cake, this year our committee will operate under a Double Delegation format, combining the values of collaboration and strategy. Each delegation is going to be tested not only on the basis of individual skill but also on their ability to work in sync, reflect the voice of their nation, and rise above differences to find unity during the conference.

As you enter this simulation, remember you are not just students, you are the diplomats and guardians of tomorrow. The decisions you take, the blocs you form, and the resolution you pass will echo beyond this conference into the minds of every participant as a model of what global governance should look like.  I hope you all have a great time in the committee, and as a chairperson, I look forward to working my best to bring out the best experience for all. And for that prepare rigorously, speak passionately, and debate ethically. I eagerly await the innovation and leadership that you will bring to the committee.

Regards,

Shlok Kasat (Chairperson) Disarmament and International Security Committee
