United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

About the Committee

Agenda: Addressing the Human Rights Situation Post Russia Ukraine Crisis in the Russia Occupied Ukraine Territories focussing on Pillar IV
Crime exists in every corner of the world, and only increases during war. While war brings everything to a standstill, crime does the opposite. It doesn’t just spread, it evolves. The United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice is where nations come together to not just condemn crime, but to prevent it and build justice where it’s destroyed. This year we are addressing the criminal side of one of the most devastating and urgent conflicts —the Russia- Ukraine conflict. We will explore three sub agendas while upholding the values of the 4th Pillar of the Kyoto Declaration on Advancing Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. From reviewing the situation of civilians during the war and addressing evolving forms of crime, to Rebuilding Ukraine’s Justice system and Tackling discrimination, we explore all the layers of the conflict– not just what was lost, but what can be repaired so that justice outlasts conflict and crime.

Letter from Chairperson

Dear Delegates,

On the occasion of the 10th iteration of the Shishukunj MUN, we, your Co-Chairpersons Rashi Soni and Shakambhari Karnik, wish you a very warm welcome.

I am Rashi Soni, a twelfth grade PCM student who loves to write and orate on almost any topic. From the day I stepped into EMYC’s conference room as a member of the organising committee at my first Shishukunj MUN, I’ve nurtured a deep love for all things MUN related and I wish to make this experience one where you’ll grow to love MUNs as much as I have. As I await you all this year at my last Shishukunj MUN conference, I hope to see you confident, well-researched and eager to learn.

I, Shakambhari, stepped into my first committee room in 7th grade thinking I would not speak a word except the GSL, and guess what? I didn’t speak a word except the GSL. Then came the award ceremony, where I decided, BOOM! I’ll one day be a part of the bureau. Since then, MUNs weren’t just about awards and being the most dominating delegate; for me, they were about coming out of my comfort zone and developing my spontaneity. And I expect from each one of you to work with integrity and focus more on the learning and character development part of MUNs rather than getting awards.

The United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (UNCCPCJ), is a committee that addresses matters concerning crime prevention and criminal justice across the globe. And this year, our agenda aims to address the issues of the war crimes in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

We are eagerly looking forward to meeting all of you. Rest assured, there will not be a dull moment in our committee and that is a promise. Don’t hesitate to contact either of us in case you wish to share something or have a query regarding any aspect of the committee. Happy Researching and All the Best!

Regards,
