Economic and Social Council

Introduction to Organ

The Economic and Social Council is one of the 6 principal organs of the United Nations, with the fundamental mandate to promote international economic and social cooperation and development. Established under the UN Charter, the organ consists of 8 functional committees that dwell on issues ranging from economic disparities to social development. ECOSOC serves as the central platform for fostering dialogue, formulating frameworks, and coordinating efforts among Member States, specialized agencies, and non-governmental organizations to bring about sustainable socio-economic changes.

The 10th iteration of the Shishukunj Model United Nations consists of 7 exhilarating ECOSOC Committees. The BRICS Summit is focusing on anti-recession frameworks and de-dollarization as UNCITRAL deliberates on the economic aftermath of 09/11 and the Iraq War, 2003. UNHCR aims at refugee integration, while UNCSW promotes gender-inclusive technological advancements. Alongside the WHO, which is working on improved maternal and child healthcare practices, we have the UNCCPCJ tackling the crumbling systems in Ukraine. Finally, we have UNCF addressing the impact of natural disasters on children. From rags to riches, we aid each one coming our way by collaborating with Uncle Pennybags (the US) while crafting policies bringing each country’s monetary dream to reality.

We are looking forward to an active participation in the ECOSOC Organ as it puts forth opportunities to enhance your public-speaking and critical thinking skills, at the same time, giving you a platform to learn invaluable content and excellent research capabilities. Get ready for an unforgettable experience.

Letter from the Under Secretary General - ECOSOC

I am Akshay Iyer, a 12th grader studying Humanities with Core Mathematics. I would (like a true humanities student) identify as a renaissance man; with multiple interests like the sciences, music and badminton. I started attending MUN’s seriously 9th grade onwards, after which there was no stopping. Through this journey, Shishukunj MUN has been a safe space for me to grow and learn. Perhaps that is why I would like to end my high school MUN journey at home, at Shishukunj MUN. This may have been a long and arduous journey but it pays off in the end. Each hour of research, each day spent sitting in committees, each and every minute spent lobbying and debating, pays off. For me, it brought an aspiring 9th grader to the point where I am capable of serving as the Under Secretary General of ECOSOC. Therefore I can confidently assert that Shishukunj MUN serves as the launchpad for many such journeys, taking one from the ordinary to something extraordinary. Hence, I encourage each one of you to use this as a platform to showcase your skills. Debate, research and most of all, enjoy each moment of Shishukunj MUN 2025.

Best of Luck and Godspeed!

Letter from the Under Secretary General – ECOSOC

I am Kavyaa Turakhia, a 12th grade PCM with Economics student. I proudly call myself a blob of energy and the living proof of an extrovert. You may often find me dancing or debating why India is the best. For me, an MUN is not a chore—it is an art: the art of pursuing, adapting, compromising, hard work and team work with just a pinch of winning. My MUN journey began back in 2019 when I was in 6th grade with no idea what I was getting into, completely unprepared. This iteration holds a special place in my heart as it is my last year participating in SISMUNs.

Looking back, it’s mind-boggling to see how far I’ve come: from being in your shoes to handing over the very shoes I once wore to you. A lot of hurdles come your way- feeling of inferiority, intimidation, partiality etc- but how you rise up and face these challenges is what defines who you are. You may not realize your potential just yet, making this conference the perfect platform to unleash it. With ‘Samprikti’ as the conference theme, you are not just building bridges to a better world but are also building bridges to a better you.

All the Best!!!
