History

Model United Nations (MUN) at The Shishukunj International School began in 2015, an idea conceptualised by our former MUN coordinator and social studies teacher Mrs. Shuchi Khanna. Inspired by the United Nation’s mission, Shishukunj MUN is conducted to enhance students’ understanding of international relations. The MUN started with a handful of students where participation was less. Over a few years, the Shishukunj MUN team grew and earned recognition. The MUN currently includes more than 900 delegates. The conference incorporates a simulation, fostering skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking, evolving as a platform for diplomatic deliberation about global issues, and is going to elevate itself in its ninth iteration as a one-of-a-kind conference where students will strive to learn from their peers while finding solutions to issues at hand—both from the past and present. Today, the MUN is one of Shishukunj’s most prestigious extracurricular activities, shaping future leaders and global citizens.

Aim

The aim of our school’s Model United Nations (MUN) in its ninth iteration is to foster a deeper understanding of global issues among students. It encourages critical thinking, diplomacy, and leadership by simulating UN committees where participants debate and collaborate on real-world problems. This year’s MUN focuses on enhancing students’ abilities to negotiate, build consensus, and develop solutions to pressing international challenges. By engaging in this experiential learning process, students gain valuable insights into the complexities of international relations and the importance of cooperative efforts in achieving sustainable global peace and development.

The UN4MUN Procedure

Although most Model UN conferences have adopted the UNA-USA rules of procedure, the UN4MUN procedure remains one of Shishukunj MUN’s most proud and significant features. As prescribed by the United Nations Department of Public Information, this procedure ensures that each delegate is of equal importance in the committee, making it a realistic simulation of the United Nations.
